PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Works, Inc., the City’s workforce development board, today announced the launch of a new training program with Prologis, Inc. (NYSE: PLD), the global leader in logistics real estate, designed to provide rapid skills training for workers looking for careers in the transportation, distribution and logistics sectors. Partnering in this regional effort with Philadelphia Works are the workforce development boards of Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton Counties in Pennsylvania and Camden County in New Jersey.

With demand for skilled logistics workers at an all-time high, training can help job candidates learn more about the industry and demystifying the activities and environments workers will experience, positioning them for success. Developed in partnership with JFF (Jobs for the Future), a national nonprofit that drives transformation in American workforce and education systems, the new online curriculum will help job candidates learn fundamentals of e-commerce, supply chain and inventory management, safety, and other key skills required for logistics careers.      

“Our employer partners in transportation, distribution and logistics are eager for workers who understand their businesses and can see career possibilities in learning these jobs,” said H. Patrick Clancy, president and CEO, Philadelphia Works. “In the current labor market, wages are all above $15 per hour providing a good return for reliable workers. There are thousands of open positions across the region.”   

The online Prologis Warehousing and Distribution Program provides self-paced, 30- to 45-minute courses that can be taken via a mobile app or on a laptop or desktop computer and are designed to be accessible for adults of all ages and most education levels. Additional training is available in professional skills, such as communication, and career development skills, such as resume-building and interviewing.

The Greater Philadelphia Region is one of seven communities selected by Prologis and JFF to offer the online training and connect interested workers with regional employment opportunities in the industry.

“At a time when millions of Americans are struggling to find work, the logistics industry can provide a steppingstone to stable employment and long-term career opportunities,” said Steven Hussain, director of community workforce programs at Prologis. “This new initiative is focused on creating an accelerated pathway to careers in logistics while addressing hiring demand for the fastest growing employers in the region.”
