City Announces Program Support Grants to Increase Adult Education
March 17, 2021

PHILADELPHIA — Today, the Office of Children and Families launched the application process for Adult Education Program Support Grants, a one-time funding opportunity, which will fund adult education, digital literacy, and workforce organizations in Philadelphia. Grants can be used for program expenses that support educational outcomes for adult learners.

Through the Adult Education Program Support Grants, the City of Philadelphia will provide grants to expand opportunities for adult education providers and the learners they serve. Organizations may request up to $25,000. The City has contracted with Philadelphia Works, Inc to oversee the grant application and administration.

If approved for a grant, funds may be used for in a variety ways such as:

  • Technology for learners who need access to virtual classes
  • Software and technology to manage intake, assessment, and learning
  • Testing fees for learners taking the GED/HiSET exams or other certifications
  • Professional development for staff

Deputy Mayor Cynthia Figueroa said, “We’re excited to fund community-based partners to provide better opportunities, access, and support for Philadelphia’s adult learners. The pandemic has created additional challenges for adult education and workforce providers and we hope these grants will bolster their efforts to connect Philadelphia residents with skill building”

Applications for grants will be accepted from now until May 16 and will be awarded on a rolling basis. Funds must be expended by June 30, 2021. The grants program is focused on organizations that are in Philadelphia. Eligible organizations are limited to Adult Education, Digital Literacy and Workforce Providers. Providers that are part of the myPLACE or KEYSPOTS networks will be given priority. A virtual  information session will be held on March 22 at 12 p.m. Interested applicants can register here or may submit their questions to AEgrants@philaworks.org.  A total of $430,515 will be awarded through the Adult Education Program Support Grants.
