Maria del Mar Cabiya
Maria del Mar Cabiya is the Director of Apprenticeship Strategies at Philadelphia Works. She is responsible for the strategic implementation of a workforce system-wide strategy for delivering apprenticeship services to employers in and around Philadelphia. This will include partnering with multiple business units within Philadelphia Works and external stakeholders to ensure Apprenticeship programs are available to youth and adult job seekers. Philadelphia Works is a leader in promoting and advancing apprenticeships and this position will build on this reputation to further expand apprenticeships in Philadelphia. This position will also oversee the management of the Southeast PA apprenticeship collaborative that includes regional pre-apprenticeship programs, labor-management organizations, employers, educational institutions, and workforce development boards. This position will provide leadership to reporting staff and cross-functional teams across the organization to embed apprenticeships in other initiatives and throughout the public workforce system.
Prior to joining Philadelphia Works, Maria worked as the Director for Training and Education at the Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health & Intellectual disability Services (DBHIDS). Maria holds a Master of Sciences in Clinical Counseling Health Psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is passionate about developing partnerships to build equity and provide our workforce with tools to serve, grow and respond effectively to today's challenges. Her expertise is in facilitating systems change, workforce development, adult learning, virtual learning, collaborative learning models, and trauma resilience. In her spare time, she loves to play with her daughter by making pirate puppets and flamingo marionettes.
