Opportunity Youth in Philadelphia: Demographic Trends
Defined as young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 who are neither employed nor enrolled in school, Opportunity Youth have historically been overrepresented by individuals of color and those living in poverty.
Using data from the 2014-2018 American Community Survey (ACS) microdata sample, this analysis looks to refresh our collective understanding of Opportunity Youth residing in Philadelphia. Importantly, due to the limited availability of timely data on Opportunity Youth characteristics, this analysis reflects the state of disconnected youth living in the city prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
